Where Discovery Creates Hope - October 2021

our work

In October’s edition of Where Discover Creates Hope, we explore how the University of Minnesota is changing rural healthcare across the state.

Through the Rural Physician Associate Program, Cassidy Peterson learned first-hand how crucial family medicine providers are in small towns like Staples.

“You get to see what it’s like to be a family doctor who does everything,” Cassidy’s mentor Dr. Lindsay Leveille said.

Cassidy, with the help of her mentors, built lasting relationships with patients, including with a mother during a difficult delivery.

The RPAP program is part of the reason Cassidy wants to stay in rural healthcare, where she’ll help patients stay close to home as they receive their care.
